NBP Capital, LLC entered into a joint venture agreement with Berggruen Properties, a subsidiary of Berggruen Holdings, in 2009. Berggruen Holdings has net equity in excess of $2 billion and acts as the investment vehicle of The Nicolas Berggruen Charitable Trust. Nicolas Berggruen is the chairman of Berggruen Holdings and the Founder of the Berggruen Institute, a non-profit, bipartisan think tank dedicated to reshaping political and social institutions. In 2010, Nicolas Berggruen signed the Giving Pledge, a commitment to give more than half his wealth away.

Berggruen Holdings uses proprietary capital, which allows for longer investment horizons, flexibility in financing and swift decision making. Berggruen Properties holds a 70% ownership stake in NBP Capital and acts as a passive capital partner. All day-to-day operations are managed by the NBP Capital executive team, while major decisions require consent from Berggruen Properties. Berggruen Properties and NBP Capital share an office in in downtown Los Angeles which enables the teams to work closely and decisively.

NBP Capital has access to large capital investments through its majority partner, Berggruen Properties. This established partnership allows for quick decision making with a focus on long-term capital appreciation. The NBP Capital executive team is engaged in every facet of the business and is actively involved in asset management, development, construction and property management through its portfolio of in-house support companies. These wholly owned service providers allow for maximum efficiency, flexibility and control. NBP Capital has offices in Los Angeles and Portland and employs over two hundred full-time employees.

Co-Presidents Don Mutal and Aaron Jones bring a deep understanding of real estate development with a combined 35+ years of experience. Through their ability to holistically consider the impact a structure can make on its surroundings, Eastbank develops assets that fit perfectly into the community’s fabric. With 75 employees, the company currently manages more than 2,000 multifamily units across 25 properties with four more properties (1,000 units) currently under development. Templeton also leases and manages more than 1.67 million square feet of commercial and industrial space with 68k square feet currently under development, and operates two divisional offices in the Pacific Northwest and California. Holler Hospitality

Holler Hospitality is NBP Capital’s in-house hospitality brand, and is led by seasoned restaurateur Jen Quist and Top Chef Alumni, Doug Adams. Their inaugural project comprises three F&B concepts at Woodlark, a new hotel in downtown Portland including: Bullard, a 70-seat restaurant that draws inspiration from Adams small town Texas upbringing and new Portland roots; Abigail Hall, a 40-seat living room-style bar; and Good Coffee, a lobby coffee bar collaboration with Portland’s Good Coffee. This project has been highly regarded in the press including being named in Time magazine’s “World’s 100 Greatest Places 2019.” Holler will be opening another restaurant experience: taking the majority of the ground floor retail space at Meetinghouse Apartments, located in Portland’s Sellwood neighborhood. This will include a collaboration with a yet-to-be-announced rising star in the dessert industry.
